Matt Holliday and Cliff Lee switching places?
I must say that I chuckled a bit when I came across this Denver Post article concerning Matt Holliday's upcoming free agency. Written by Woody Paige, frequent guest on ESPN's Around the Horn, the article suggests that Cleveland might be a good place to cash in on Holliday's Colorado equity.
Since Holliday most likely won't re-sign with the Rockies, the thought is to trade him by July 31st to get the most value for him. And Paige suggests somthing like a Matt Holliday plus Brad Hawpe or Garrett Atkins for Cliff Lee, a middle reliever, and an outfield prospect.
Hmm...
Not sure I like this at all. I like the thought of trying to get value for Holliday if you're going to lose him, but this seems like they're giving up way too much by thinking of including another player. I would think Holliday himself would carry that type of value.
Any thoughts?....

Seriously...Woody Page?
What is Cleveland going to give up for Holliday? They are not about to send Sizemore, C.C. Sabathia, Martinez, Hafner can take himself off the list by his play, Peralta isn't going anywhere Colorado has Tulo and Barmes, Francisco, and Gutierrez aren't going anywhere...So what is Cleveland going to give up for Holliday? Cliff Lee...Seriously Woody can I get some of what you are smoking?
This guy is a lunatic...I can think of 5 teams that are better suited to pull off a deal for Holliday! Yankees, Red Sox, Tampa, Phillies, Mets...that was quick! Oh wait, 5 more...Both teams from the windy city, Anahiem, Pittsburgh, Cincinatti, and Houston!
If you want to know why I think these 10 teams have an easier run at Holliday, post a team and ask why!
Woody, stop hitting the bottle before, during, and after work! Seriously!!!

I heard these trade rumors
I heard these trade rumors also. Pretty interesting stuff. I'm sure the yankees would be interested but i doubt they will want to give the farm up to get him since they might be much more interested in trading for CC Sabbathia if he hits the market before July 31st.
They could clear Abreu's contract after this year. Which would make room for him in the long term.
One other aspect to consider for the yanks is they have 2-3 intriguing prospects for the OF almost MLB ready. Now they are not Matt Holliday type players but they could be key role players.
About a month from the allstar break and trade rumors already starting to roll. I love baseball!
