The Right Callups Change Seasons!
The Cincinatti Reds are 5-1 since Jay Bruce received the call to the big club! Pitchers are starting to find out that the hype around this guy was warranted! Bruce has completely changed the Reds lineup overnight, by giving them a spark out of the 2 hole! I know, I know he has only played in 6 games! I KNOW! I was shredded last year by a few buddies for being so high on Ryan Braun, I think I was pretty right on that one! Jay bruce is showing that he deserves getting Ryan Braun like hype by putting together a .591avg going 13 for 22, scoring 10 runs, 5 extra base hits...including 2 hrs, contributing 6 rbi's, and walking 2 times! Since this young rookies call up the Reds have been playing with a swagger that I haven't seen in a long time!
Before the call up the Reds offense really struggled to get production only averaging 4.4 runs a game, since the call up the Reds are scoring 6.3 runs a game! The Reds pitching wasn't bad, however when you are constantly worried about having to make perfect pitches because you know your offense isn't going to get it done...it leads to trouble! Since the Bruce call up it seemed like the Reds pitchers have been more comfortable on the mound, and have not been afraid to challenge some of the more feared hitters in baseball...McCann, Chipper, and Big Tex from the Braves all struggled in a weekend where they saw themselves swept right out of Cincy!
Edinson Volquez has been virtually unhittable, Johnny Cueto can be down right filthy, Arroyo, and Harang are solid veterans that have shut down some of the best lineups the game has to offer. The Reds newfound ability to score runs is just going to make that staff even better! Watch out national league, the Reds may just turn the corner...all because of a call up!
The fantasy fallout since the Bruce call has been huge...he provides Phillips, Dunn, Griffey, and Joey Votto alot of protection out of the 2 hole, and he has been supplying those guys with rbi opportunity after rbi opportunity... The park he plays in, is going to allow Bruce to hit far more home runs than he would elsewhere, but his ability to get on base makes all the Reds that much better...I would be looking to get my hands on Reds pitching, and hitting if it is available...because Jay Bruce makes them that much better!
