NFL Rookie RBs Running Wild
As we venture into week 10 of the NFL season, there are a couple of Rookie Running Backs (RBs) looking run wild, like 3 of their counterparts.
We've already seen Chris Johnson (TEN), Matt Forte (CHI) and Steve Slaton (HOU) take over starting/significant roles for their offenses.
Now four more rookie runners enter into the mix this week. Here's a breakdown of who they are, and what their fantasy imact will likely be:
- Tim Hightower, ARZ: Hightower takes over for the EDGE, after running for 100+ yards and a TD in his starting debut in week 9. He's the feature back in Arizona now, and has the most fantasy upside of this crop of rookies. Arizona has a great offense, featuring Warner, Boldin and Fitzgerald, which will allow Hightower to put up great numbers to balance out Arizona's offensive attack.
- Ryan Torain, DEN: There's an aweful lot of hype surrounding this running back --who's managed just 1 yard on 3 carries as an NFL player. Torain was a beast at Arizona State, and doesn't have much competition in the Bronco's backfield. He stands to split time with Selvin Young after Denver's other backs were placed on IR this week. He has good potential, but I'd recommend holding off for now until Shanahan figures out how he's going to use his 2 backs. Definately pick him up if he's available, but I don't think you can start him right now.
- Jamaal Charles, KC: Charles benefits from KC's injury woes and Larry Johnson's character issues. Charles has great speed, but lacks in size, which has brought comments from his coach that he's not a full-time, feature type back with the ability to handle 20+ snaps a game. However, he managed to make it through 18 carries for 106 yards in week 9, and being the only real option for KC, he's going to start for a couple of games...at least until Johnson comes back. Buyer beware, here, as Charles showed a propensity to caugh up the ball in Texas, which could limit his time, but also be aware of the fact that KC is horrible, and fantasy stardom probably won't happen for Charles this year.
- Ray Rice, BAL: The Rutgers alumni has people talking about his skills...and they've been talking since training camp. He's been a constant fixture in the Ravens' passing attack all year, and just put up 175+ total yards in week 9. He's battling the oft-injured Willis McGahee for the starting role, but his explosiveness and pass-catching ability should push him over the edge and make him the Ravens' feature back soon. The only problem is that soon might not be this year with McGahee limping around behind him.

Torain Out?
Torain might be out for the year on IR w/ a torn ACL. At least if you started him this week, you still got a TD and 68 rushing yards. Hopefully that was enough, but now you're looking for a new back.
