Shredders go down in defeat: Poor Roster Management & Unbelievable Defense to Blame
It was a hard-fought battle in week 10 of fantasy football, with the Shredders falling to Victorious Secret (VS) 64-61. Both teams played well, but in the end, the Shredders left too many points on their bench to overcome VS's amazing showing from the Green Bay Packer defense.
After Thursday's game, it was already looking grim for the Shredders. Sure, they were up 23-15 at that time, but overcoming 15 points from a tight end seemed an unsurmountable task. That is, until Bo Scaife took the field and rolled in a TD and 8 points. A 7 point spread on tight ends could definately be overcome.
But not a 17 point showing by a defense. That's a tough one. 3 interceptions, 2 sacks, and 2 defense/special teams touchdowns helped VS stand ahead by 21 points going into Monday night's contest.
It would be up to Frank Gore and Anquan Boldin to make up this difference, but they fell short with a combined 18.
Adding fuel to the fire was the Shredders' decision to start Jamaal Charles this week. Thinking that a definate starter would have a better shot than two guys splitting carries, and a rookie *phenom* with only 3 carries under his belt prior to Thursday's game, Charles re-injured his ankle in the first quarter, landing a big goose egg on the Shredders roster. On the bench, Kevin Smith (9 points) and Ryan Torain (8 points) served as reminders of this roster blunder, and the points that were left on the table. Sure, it would have been crazy to start Torain, but in retrospect Smith was the smart play. And I blew it.
The only other points the Shredders really left on the table were the 13 that Todd Heap put up this week. Honestly, I'm just happy that Scaife scored, and I'm not concerned with the 5 more that Heap landed. It would have been a pipe dream to start Heap this week, when he hasn't done squat all year, so kudos to him, and perhaps he'll go on a nice little tear the second half of the season.
As for the Shredders, we now stand 1 game out of the playoff hunt at 5-5, with three teams tied for the division's best record at 6-4. We still have a chance, but we face tough competition in the 3 remaining teams on the schedule as each is currently 6-4 and in the playoff hunt.

Sucks about your team. It's tough when a defense has a great game...hard to overcome that.
