Week 11 NFL Picks:
Detroit Lions (+14) at Carolina Panthers
I talked last week about my rule regarding spreads over 14, and here we have a game with a 14 point spread. Do we take the points automatically? Or is Detroit really that bad? Hmm...let's see. Detroit will start Dante Culpepper again this week. That's 2 straight starts for a guy that was sitting at home until mid-last week. And this is a team that was trounced 38-14 last week by the Jaguars. HOWEVER, as bad as the Lions have been, they've only been beaten by +14 4 out of 6 games this year, and 3 of those were in weeks 2-5. I like Carolina to win this game, but it wouldn't suprise me if the Panthers fell. Regardless, take the points, as the Panthers win, but the Lions cover.Take Detroit and the Points, but Panthers win by 10.
Cleveland Browns (+5) at Buffalo Bills
Brady Quinn looked pretty sharp last week, and he should fare well again on Monday vs. the Bills. Quinn to Winslow might get a repeat performance of last week, but I have a feeling that when the clock runs out, it's the Bills that are on top. Sure, the Bills have dropped the last 3 after starting out 5-1, but a home game on Monday night is just what they need to get back in the division hunt. Bills by 7.
San Diego Chargers (+5) at Pittsburg Steelers
I really want to pick the Chargers here. They've got LT, Rivers, Jackson and Gates...great offensive weapons. And Sproles steps in as a lightning rod from time to time. But, they also have their defense, which does not boast as great of playmakers as their offense. After a bye week, and changing their defensive coordinator, the Chargers barely edged out the Chiefs 20-19 thanks to a failed 2-pt conversion. Will another week of practice help tame the Steelers' attack of Roethlisberger, Moore, Porter, Holmes and Ward? I think not. The defense fails them again, and the Steelers prevail at home. Steelers by 8.
St. Louis Rams (+6) at San Francisco 49ers
Hill looked very good on Monday night. That's great for 49ers fans, but bad for the Rams. The Rams are just aweful on the road so far this year, being outscored 48-0 in the first quarter, 88-6 at halftime and 122-19 overall. Throw in the fact that SJax will probably be riding the pine, and it's going to be a long day for Rams fans. Gore and Hill will have great days this Sunday - so get them in your fantasy lineups! - and we're going to ride their success to the $$. 49ers by 10.
New Orleans Saints (-5 1/2) at Kansas City Chiefs
The Saints fell to 4-5 last week, losing in Atlanta. Breese, McCallister, and perhaps even Reggie Bush are salivating at the chance to go against the putrid Chiefs defense. But, the Chiefs did manage to hold the Chargers to 20 points (although their coach admitted he went for 2 at the end of the game because he knew his defense wouldn't stop them again). Yet, I think the key to this game began as a dream to play NCAA football for a start-up university. Yes, several years ago Tyler Thigpen arrived on the campus of Coastal Carolina University to try and lead the Chanticleers to victory in their first seasons ever in NCAA football. And he was successful. One key to those CCU days was a strong running game. Enter Larry Johnson, who'll be back this week with a big chip on his shoulder...and fresh legs. Add to a rejuvinated running game the fact that Thigpen is becoming quite comfortable as a starting NFL QB (averaging just under 200 ypg, with 6 TDs and 0 INTs in his past 4 games) and you've got a recipe for a Chiefs victory. Call me crazy, but the Chiefs not only cover, but they'll win to boot (or, by a boot)! Chiefs by 3.

No way the Chiefs win. New
No way the Chiefs win. New Orleans is going to kill them. Thigpen's nice little run will end soon...I'm not buying the hype. What the hell is a Chanticleer, anyway?
'Dog is right, Jones wrong x3
Ah, so is the life of a NFL-pickem guy. Looked good last week, stumbled a bit this week. When the games ended, we ended up at 2-3. Here's how it turned out:
Detroit 22, Carolina 31: Cover! Carolina wins by 9, we'll take the points to the bank!
Cleveland 29, Bills 27: And the money goes back to the bank!
Chargers 10, Pitt 11: Wishing for the correct call on the late touchdown that should have counted! We go from should have pushed, to should have picked another team!
Rams 16, 49ers 35: Back in victory lane, but this was an easy one to pick.
Saints 30, Chiefs 20: Thigpen didn't save his team, and didn't save us.
So, our lovely 2-3 record brings us up to 5-4 on the year. For those of you not going by the spread, we ended up 3-2 for the week, and YTD is now 7-2.
