MLB Trade Rumors and Notes - 7-14-08
We've already seen 2 blockbuster trades in the MLB trade market so far with CC Sabathia and Rich Harden switching teams and leagues. And the rumor mills are a buzz with other names of players that might potentially switch teams on or before the MLB trading deadline.
In case you've missed the rumors, here's what's being whispered about in baseball circles that might impact your fantasy baseball teams:
- The Braves are rumored to have offered Teixeira to Boston for Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen. The Sox declined, but this confirms that the Braves are definately looking to sell their big bat. The Angels might also be willing to part with Nick Adenhart for Teixeira, but they're also dreaming of Matt Holliday.
- Speaking of Holliday, the Dodgers and Red Sox also appear to be interested in the sluggers' services. There's also some thought that the Nationals could sneak into the picture. I'll be honest, I'm still a little skeptic about Holliday being dealt. Unless Colorado gets back something really major, I just don't see the reason to deal him when he's already locked up for 2009.
- The Pirates appear to definately be shopping both Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte. The pair has been rumored to be a part of a potential package to the Yankees for prospect Ross Ohlendorf. However, it looks like Jason Bay is probably staying put. Word is that the asking price would be too much, but the Pirates will entertain offers.
- Freddy Garcia returning? A ton of teams are thought to be carefully monitoring his progress. The Yankees, Mets, Astros, Rangers, Royals, Red Sox, Phillies, Tigers, and White Sox have interest. Plus, several other teams might also be on the lookout for Garcia's services.
- Cubs seeing Greene? Chicago has had interest in Padres 2B Kahlil Greene in the past, and they might be coming around for another shot. The Padres were interested in Felix Pie. Pie was on Chicago's "untouchable list" in years past, but that's probably not the case today. He's more than likely worn out his welcome a la Matt Murton and Eric Patterson.
- If you're wondering....nobody seems interested in Barry Bonds. The steroid issue can't really be an issue now with the Mitchell report being released and players such as Giambi, Andi Pettitte, and many others named still playing today. I'm guessing his enterage is what's holding him back. Either that or everyone's just sick of him. Honestly, seems like he'd be a good short term fix for the Mariners. They could just get rid of their entire team, play some prospects and AAAA players, and let Ichiro and Bonds bring the fans into the stands.
- Speaking of the Mariners, here's who's likely on the trading block: Erik Bedard, Adrian Beltre, Raul Ibanez, Arthur Rhodes, and Jarrod Washburn. Bedard probably has to go, but we all know Seattle won't be getting back anywhere near what they paid for him less than a year ago. Rhodes could be a cheap reliever picked up with other relievers probably commanding a premium price. Beltre's been linked to a possible deal with the Twins. Ibanez' interested parties appear to be Arizona, Boston, and the Dodgers.
- Adam Dunn is swinging for the fence, but teams are staying away. I'm suprised more teams aren't interested in his services. Perhaps the fact that everyone knows the Reds want to get rid of him is keeping the return for him too low for the Reds to accept.
- I'm not suprised to see Tim Redding or Odalis Perez being thrown about in trade rumors. What I can't believe is that Jon Rauch's name keeps popping up a bit. His value would take a nose-dive if dealt out of Washington. Perhaps the Nationals are upset with their inability to trade Chad Cordero as planned, and are going to deal away their best reliever regardless.
- A.J Burnett was recently the subject of a trade offer by the Phillies. Don't be suprised if he gets moved this year.
