2008 Home Run Derby Drinking Game
I just stumbled upon homerderby.com's 2008 Home Run Derby Drinking Game. I can only imagine that people participating in the game this year probably didn't make it to work on Tuesday.
The game features a short and long version. The short game features 4 simple rules:
- Put 911 on speed dial
- Drink every time Chris Berman says "back" (such as "back, back, back")
- Drink every time Joe Morgan says something stupid
- Wake up next week
That alone sounds like fun. But then they roll out the long-version of the game. If the short version left you with visions of the morning after a tequila moment in high school, the long version could, perhaps, be responsible for thousands of home run derby fans waking up in a dumpster in Mexico the next day.
Here are a few of the highlights from the 33 rule "long version" of the game:
- Drink for every home run - honestly, how many made it through Hamilton's amazing first round?
- Drink twice if it lands in the second deck, three times if it hits the third deck.
- Drink every time a ball is dropped in the outfield by kids shagging the fly balls
- Drink every time Joe Morgan mentions that he led off the 1977 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium with a Home Run. Drink twice if there’s video.
- Drink if they put up a picture of Eva Longoria next to Evan Longoria.
- Drink if they spell out Dan Uggla's last name.
- Drink every time they mention Josh Hamilton’s recovery from addiction.
- Drink when you hear “The House that Ruth Built“
- Drink every time they mention this is the last season at Yankee Stadium.
It's good to see that people are enjoying the home run derby this year. It was, after all, a huge success with Hamilton breaking the single-round record for home runs, and then losing the competition in the finals. I just wonder how many people that tried out this drinking game remember how it ended.
