Shredders win Big...Still fighting for Playoff Spot
Week 11 in the Fantasy Football world brought another Shredders victory, as the team fights to make up a 1 game deficit for a playoff spot with just 2 weeks left!
This week's game was not against a divisional opponent, and it's too bad. We're stuck 1 game behind the playoff chase, and all 3 teams ahead of us won to retain their lead.
Victory!! 52-32
The Shredders were carried by the great play of Mason Crosby and Frank Gore, putting up 16 and 15 points each, respectively. Although Boldin didn't make it into the end zone, his receiving yards were good enough for 6 points. Finishing out the Shredders scoring outbreak was Cutler (5), Kevin Smith (3), B. Marshall (2), and Titans D (5). Once again, a goose-egg from the tight-end spot, as Bo Scaife failed to reach 30 receiving yards.
Unlike last week, the Shredders clearly had their best players for the week on the field, as only Roddy White (3) scored more points than a starter as a bench player. The same cannot be said for War Machine, as 6 points separated Vinetari from starter Kris Brown, and 10 points were lost on Dwayne Bowe being benched over Braylon Edwards. Nevertheless, these 16 points would not have been enough to catapult War Machine over the Shredders' offensive output, so it's a moot point.
Shredders, 6-5, 1 Game Out of Playoffs!
It's heartbreaking that the Shredders are currently 1 game out of the playoffs. I may be biased since I drafted, managed, and put together the lineups, but we currently have the most points scored of any team in the league by 44 points. To put this in perspective, 40-45 points is probably considered an average to almost-good week in the league where you probably have a 50/50 shot of winning your matchup (based on scoring in the past few years).
Contributing to the Shredders' record is the fact that through week 11, we've faced the 4th highest points scored against in the league. The top 2 teams are the worst 2 teams in the league, but it doesn't matter as they've also accumulated the lowest point totals of any offensive units.
Think I'm bragging or jaded by saying that the team currently consisting of Cuter, Gore, SJAX/Kevin Smith, Boldin, Marshall, White, Mason Crosby, and Titans' Defense is the best squad in the league? Here's a fact: we're the only team to score below 40 points only twice this year! Every other team has done it more, with most teams dipping below the 40 pt marker at least 4 times. Also, 4 of our 5 losses have been by 5 points or less! Amazing...makes me want to go back and pick a better tight end during the draft than Alge Crumpler and Todd Heap!!!!
On the Horizon: Shredders vs. Sunday Slackers
This week may be the Shredders' last chance to sneak into the playoffs. Right now, we're 1 game back, but we still control our own destiny. A win over the divisional rival Slackers would bump them down even with us, and if we can win the last game of the year, we'd be in over a tie-breaker.
Last time these two teams faced off, the Shredders emerged victorious by a score of 48-29. It will be no easy matchup, however, as we face Eli Manning, LT, Larry Fitzgerald, and Tony Gonzalez. These guys didn't do much in the last matchup, but I'm fearing that tight end matchup of Gonzalez vs. Scaife as a potential game decider.
Stay tuned for more information regarding the Shredders and their march to a Fantasy Championship!
