Following Jordan Lyles: The Astros Have Found a Gem!
In a previous blog article I spoke about how the Houston Astros shocked many Major League scouting departments when they selected Jordan Lyles 38th overall in the draft. They completely screwed up so many teams plans to draft Lyles between picks 50-100...alot of teams were high on him, but the Stros called a personal workout and obviously liked what they saw.
The Houston Astros are getting instant gratification on their prized young pitcher...in 3 appearances with the Greenville Astros he is been pretty dominating! Greenville is holding Lyles to a strict 40 pitch count early in the season, because they want to protect this young arm! Don't just look at his 0-1 record, check out these numbers: 12 innings pitched, 6 hits, 2 runs - only 1 earned, 1 walk, 16 K's, 2.0 GO/AO, and only a .176 batting average against him.
More updates to follow...
WOW...I believe this kid is going to be a stud!

Lyles
I agree! His arm looks lively and his upside seems great. I've also been impressed with Shane Wolf and Ashton Mowdy. Shane has no wins, but a 2.25 ERA and Ashton is 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA. Now if we could just get Ross Seaton to sign. I can't wait to see his stuff. Everything I have read is that the kid is fantastic. It will be nice to have some good arms in the minors again. I hope they hang onto them!
